We’re all in this together.
It’s Midnight. I can’t sleep, I rustle the covers, turning from side to side unable to drop off.
Then, what’s that sound?
Owls.
Owls?
Owls!
I’ve never heard owls before. At least not real ones. I’ve heard them in films but not in real life. That’s it, there’s no chance of falling asleep now.
I decide to get up and make a brew.
Make time for Tetley the box of teabags say.
I don’t care, I’m still thinking about the Owls..
Bang!
..What was that?
A door bangs downstairs, it’s the dead of night. It was probably the Canadian. He’s usually up late at night.
Doing what? Who knows.
I get back to my room with a brew and sit there for a bit. I look out the window, it looks like a nice night. A bit cloudy but then again it usually is here in the UK.
I decide to go outside for a stroll. I roll a cigarette before leaving as usual and leave the Police Station. (No smoking allowed inside here).
I walk down the street, contemplating my next move, tonight, tomorrow, whenever.
I walk down towards Manchester until I can see the high rising buildings towering above me, then I turn back.
I flick my cigarette butt on the floor, as the police just happen to be driving by. Luckily this time they didn’t stop. Phew.
I cross the street and who do I see walking the opposite way? An Amish man, or a Jew. I don’t know. You see a lot of them around here. The strange thing was, he was on a mobile phone. He dresses like it’s 1809 yet he has a mobile phone! Ironic, I think to myself as I walk back to the Police Station.
Because we’re off the grid here I was thinking whether we could get a Dominoes ordered here. The Canadian mentioned to me the other day he tried to get internet installed here but he wasn’t able to. We’re off the grid.
I laughed and explained to him I had a few people after me and that they’d never find me here.. Hopefully he knew I was joking. Or was I?
Anyway here I was almost back home and I look up and see that It’s a full moon tonight. I could just about see it through the skeletal branches of a tree bent with age.
Nice.
I look around and note how nice the houses are here, they’re like castles. Maybe it’s the Jews. Nice cars too. I don’t know.
Snow starts to fall as I make it to the car park of the Police Station. There’s a white van parked outside. Suspicious. Very suspicious. I manage to take a picture without alerting too much attention to myself.
I put the key into the door, I realize just how dark it is outside, I’m not bothered, I’m still wondering whether we could get Dominoes sent here. We’re off the grid, remember?
Ah. It’s good to be back.
It’s kind of eerie at night though.
The Canadian likened it to a horror movie. I guess he could be right. What’s the number for Dominoes? Ah it’s too late. Maybe tomorrow.
